Birds and Trees

There was a time
when I thought birds talked 
to each other in the morning. 

Chat, chirp, whistle, warble. 

Meaning-making among songbirds, 
their secret learned language.
They check for understanding. 

Warble, whistle, chirp, chat. 

Trees listen. 
Trees know.
Birds must sing about it. 

I’m coming to know that birds answer trees 
so that we take notice and act.
