Without a Paddle 
- a golden shovel -

A haystack of words out 
in a golden haystack beyond
reach in the tangle of ideas 
while those with bellies empty of
food, left houseless by wrongdoing
or misfortune, mistakes made and 
not yet set free by rightdoing,
wait for a lucky strike or shade there 
for some kind of a break. What is
possible? Where is a
get out of jail card, a free pass, a field 
of dreams for a fresh start? I’ll 
never understand how people meet 
each day without hope; how you,
and I would fare if fate put us there.
